Wildlife presents great risk and hazard to aircraft operations

The Authority is subject to Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), Part III, Subpart 2 – Airports, Wildlife Planning and Management Regulation.

 

Airport Wildlife Management Plan

Reducing and mitigating wildlife hazards and associated risks to aircraft and airport operations promotes aviation safety for passengers and flight crews. and is critical to avoid injuries, damages, or even loss of life.

AWMP goals

  • Integrated approach to wildlife management for Airport lands near or at a distance from the runways
  • Mitigation measures to reduce the risks to aircraft and airport operations caused by wildlife activities

  • Respecting roles and responsibilities for practical wildlife management actions
  • Monitoring AWMP performance and reporting annually
  • Communicating following procedures with respect to wildlife hazards
  • Training and researching best practices for wildlife control activities
