The Ottawa Airport - "reducing operational expenditures"
The events of September 11th, 2001 resulted in a tragic loss of life, pain and suffering that will remain for a very long time. The financial impact on airports, airlines and related businesses throughout the world has been dramatic.
An industry geared toward growth must now refocus itself. We must and will reposition ourselves for a solid long-term future.
The Ottawa International Airport Authority revenues are expected to be reduced by $3M. In addition, revenues from airport improvement fees will likely be reduced by $1.5M due to the reduced number of air travellers in 2001.
“We will lower our operational expenditures” said President Paul Benoit. The Airport Authority has instituted a hiring freeze, eliminated all non-operational overtime, deferred purchases of capital equipment and ordered a halt to non-essential new projects.
The Ottawa Airport is committed to reducing its expenses. It is not the Airport's intention to raise fees to the airlines and travelling public at this time, but rather to offset our revenue losses by reducing our expenses.
The Airport Authority is committed to working with the Federal Government, our airlines and related businesses to ensure the safety and security of the travelling public and the viability of this industry.
