Ottawa City Council approved moving forward with the Stage 2 Light Rail Transit (LRT) program

Published on March 8, 2017

The Ottawa International Airport Authority is very pleased that Ottawa City Council approved moving forward with the Stage 2 Light Rail Transit (LRT) program, including the airport rail link from South Keys Station on the Trillium Line.

“As I expressed during a delegation to the Finance and Economic Development Committee (FEDCO) on February 24th, the time to build the airport link is now, when the Trillium Line is being extended south to Bowesville Road,” said Mark Laroche, President and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority. “The City has demonstrated its commitment to building a world class transit system, and I look forward to continued collaboration with the project team as we get to the finer details of the airport station design and integration with the City’s rail system”.

The Chair of the Airport Authority’s Board of Directors, Susan St. Amand, expressed her support for today’s decision as well. “This is great news, not only for the airport, but for the greater community. I would like to thank Mayor Watson and Council for acknowledging the importance of efficient, multimodal access to the airport now and in the future as our city continues to grow”.
