Ottawa International Airport to exercise emergency procedures

Published on October 16, 2007

The Ottawa International Airport Authority will be conducting an exercise of its emergency procedures during evening conditions. The exercise will be held tonight between 8:00 and 11:00 p.m.

The exercise will include the participation of many of the Airport Authority’s partners, including Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Paramedic Services, Canada Border Services Agency, US Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), OC Transpo, Algonquin College and the Montfort Hospital.

The exercise will involve radio communication that will be preceded by the word “exercise”, in an effort to mitigate any concern in the public domain. Because the exercise will be conducted during a short window of time, media access will not be available. Inquiries can be directed to the media line.

OMCIAA operates Ottawa International Airport without government subsidies under a 60-year lease transfer agreement with Transport Canada. The OMCIAA’s mandate is to manage, operate and develop airport facilities and lands in support of the economic growth of the National Capital Region. Its state-of-the-art passenger terminal building opened for business on October 12, 2003, and is being expanded to accommodate growth in passenger volumes.
