Airport Authority

The Airport Authority is a dynamic corporation that oversees the Airport as a whole.

Plumbers

Plumbers perform preventive maintenance; plan and install plumbing and fixtures in renovation or construction projects; maintain copper, steel, cast iron and plastic piping systems; repair mechanical systems and equipment (water supply, water and steamed based heating, sewage and storm water drainage; fire protection; and control the movement or containment of fluids and gases).

Heavy equipment mechanic

Mechanics keep a fleet of various light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment in good working order. The fleet includes cars, pick up trucks, fire trucks, snow removal equipment, ground maintenance equipment and buses. The team perform routine maintenance checks on various equipment, diagnoses mechanical failures using specialized testing equipment, and overhauls and repairs gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles. 

Millwright - Industrial mechanic

Millwrights perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment, and repair Airport machinery and mechanical equipment, using specialized tools. Airport machinery includes the baggage conveyor system; air-handling units, exhaust fans, and exhaust rail systems; sliding, motorizes, overhead and trap doors; and loading bridges. 

Canine handler

Our canine team conducts security sweeps for the detection of explosive substances or the deterrence of threats in the Airport environment. Handlers manage and care for their assigned canine on a 24/7 basis.

Environment

This team oversees the Authority’s environmental programs including noise, storm water, waste, salt, and glycol management. They lead the sustainability strategy at YOW and work with campus partners to reduce greenhouse gases. The environmental specialists ensure the Authority is compliant with wildlife conservation, and water, soil, and air quality standards and environmental legislation.

Infrastructure

This highly-specialized team includes subject matter experts in capital projects, construction, facilities management, engineering, and project management. The Auhority oversees all new construction, renovations and alterations on Airport land, including in and around the terminal, runways and off-site tenant projects. 

Electricians

Electricians inspect, repair, and maintain a variety of systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers. Electrical systems at the Airport provide heat, light, power, control, signal or fire alarms for all types of buildings, structures and premises. Electricians oversee interior and exterior lighting systems, including airfield lights.

Heavy equipment operations

There is full-time and seasonal employment as a heavy equipment operator at YOW. This team maintains ground surfaces including runways, parking lots, public roads, aprons, sidewalks, and grassy areas. Various mobile equipment used include loaders, sweepers, mowers, trucks, spreaders, and tractors.

Firefighting

Our on-site fire hall is home to our aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) team which operates in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). Firefighters are on-site 24/7 and respond to aircraft emergencies as well as incidents in the terminal.

Operations

A dedicated team of operations specialists is at the core of our daily operations 24/7. They monitor aircraft movement and related activities, respond to emergencies, provide medical care, observe and report incidents, dispatch resources and more.

Administration

An array of administrative professionals work in the following fields within the Authority: air service development, finance, human resources, planning, land development, legal affairs, project management, marketing, parking, operations, communications, leasing, accessibility and more. 

Information technology (IT)

There are multiple types of roles within this team that are responsible for keeping our network, assets, and virtual spaces up-to-date and safe. From check-in kiosks to cybersecurity, information management to digital screens, they manage the many tools that keep operations running smoothly.

Security and emergency

This team fosters a safe and secure airport environment collaboratively with colleagues and external organizations. In addition to ensuring compliance with federal regulations and corporate security policies, members of this team specialize in emergency planning, crisis management, emergency response, security incident management, training, managing the contracted security provider, investigations, and physical security.
