Communications Coordinator


The Ottawa International Airport Authority (Authority) is accepting applications for a Communications Coordinator position.
The Communications Coordinator will protect and enhance the Authority’s brand through excellent communications and media relations, effective public relations, and meaningful community programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Administer the Authority’s communication deliverables (i.e. newsletters, bulletins, press releases, blog posts, etc.)
- Administer the Authority’s web comment/inquiry program, including responding in a timely manner, tracking and reporting
- Coordinate filming requests and activities on Authority premises
- Plan and support events (i.e. press conferences, promotional events, Annual Public Meetings, stakeholder events, etc.)
- Foster relationships with internal partners and stakeholders
- Coordinate community relations programs and outreach initiatives, including the YOW Showcase, coin collection and welcome kiosk programs
- Support the Authority’s spokesperson by liaising with the media, issuing press releases and facilitate requests for interviews, statements, etc.
- Assist in the development of effective corporate communications plans and strategies
- Promote and create content for the Authority’s employee blog
- Develop and explore ideas, shape articles and written materials for the Authority
- Support the Authority’s digital and social media presence
- Work with the Information Technology team to support Authority’s intranet site
- Support the organization’s translation needs, including proofreading, editing and facilitating document translations (i.e. articles, advertisements, brochures, reports, letters, signage, etc.)
- Support regulatory changes related to the Official Languages Act
- Develop and maintain a library of photographic assets
- Provide other departmental support as required
The successful candidate must :
- Have excellent written communication skills and highly articulate in both official languages (English and French);
- Be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently, word under pressure and meet tight deadlines with accuracy;
- Have superior attention to detail;
- Have strong organizational skills including time management, planning and scheduling;
- Demonstrate the ability to navigate through ambiguous situations without compromising the Authority or the department’s reputation;
- Have excellent customer service skills and a positive demeanor
- Be self-motivated, flexible and able to work well both independently and as part of a team; and
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, discretion and ability to foster effective working relationships with diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
These abilities, combined with a professional and positive attitude, will ensure success in building positive working relationships in a team environment.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree or college diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
- Three (3) years of proven relevant experience in Communications, Public or Media relations, or a related field
- Exceptional verbal, writing, editing and proofreading skills in both official languages (English and French)
- Experience creating and managing content across various channels, including digital, social media, intranet and traditional media
- Experience planning events and initiatives
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity and critical thinking with media relations and understanding of crisis communication
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams) and HTML
- Working knowledge of creating social media and digital content
- Valid driver’s license (Class G or equivalent)
ASSETS
- Five (5) years of proven relevant experience in communications, public or media relations, or related field
- Familiarity with the Official Languages Act
- Proficiency in Campaigner, WordPress, and Adobe
ABOUT THE POSITION
Salary
$77,016 to $87,048 per year in accordance with the current Collective Agreement (July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2028 rates) and based on a work week of 37.5 hours.
Job requirements
- Provide a driver’s abstract (issued within the last month)
- Successfully obtain a security clearance check for an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
