An economic impact study is a means of providing a measure of an Airport’s current activity, importance and purpose, as well as the benefits associated with the Airport.

The purpose of measuring the economic impact at the Ottawa International Airport is to heighten business and community awareness of the airport and its contribution to the economic well being of the country. It also identifies economic linkages between the aviation industry and other sectors of the economy.

The Ottawa International Airport’s most recent Economic Impact Study, completed by WSP Canada, measures the Airport’s contribution to the local economy. Measurements include employment, wages, gross domestic product, among others, and are based on direct, indirect and induced impacts. The Study confirms that the Ottawa International Airport continues to be a major contributor to the prosperity of the local economy, generating $2.2 billion in total output each year. With passenger volumes tracking at approximately 2.0% for the past couple of years, and with similarly steady growth projected going forward, the Study anticipates that the Airport’s economic output will track to approximately $2.5 billion by 2021.
