This morning, Porter Airlines held a ‘Topping Off’ ceremony to mark the end of the framing portion of its hangar project at YOW.

PCL Construction, with Span Construction & Engineering, many subcontractors and partners, Porter Airlines, their architects from Scott and Associates, and the Airport Authority came together to celebrate and sign the last steel beam and watch as it was hoisted into place.

We were proud to see a pine tree on the beam; ironworkers have a long-standing tradition of mounting a tree at a topping off where no lost-time events have occurred at worksites. The constructor who explained said it best: everyone has returned home each day with all their fingers and toes.

As Airport Authority President and CEO, Mark Laroche said at the event, the project is very near and dear to his heart. It represents the culmination of years of effort to ensure YOW plays a key role in Porter’s ambitious and exciting expansion plans.

We look forward to seeing the first Embraer E195-E2 jets in the hangars once they’re completed and congratulate everyone involved in this impressive, safe and efficient project.
