Airport terminal - Aérogare

The Ottawa International Airport Authority announced its results for the year ended December 31st, 2015 at its Annual Public Meeting today.

  • Passenger volumes totaled 4,656,360 for the year, which represents a 0.86% increase over 2014. Domestic travel led the growth with an increase of 1.6% over 2014 figures. The volume breaks down as follows:
    • Domestic: 3,488,629 passengers
    • Transborder: 735,755 passengers
    • International: 431,976 passengers
  • Revenues in 2015 were 5.3% higher at $118.2 million compared to $112.2 million in 2014. The increase can mostly be attributed to a residual year-over-year impact from an increase in the Airport Improvement Fee of $3 that was implemented on February 1, 2014, coupled with higher passenger volumes.
  • Expenses before depreciation of $90.4 million were 8.8% higher than in 2014. The Authority finished the year with earnings before depreciation of $27.8 million compared to $29.2 million in 2014.

Last year was a very successful and productive year, with many highlights. The Ottawa International Airport Authority is proud that it:

  • Completed a $300 million Series E Bond issue;
  • Hosted the first ever major safety exercise featuring an aircraft accident caused by a drone strike;
  • Made significant progress on the $60 million baggage handling system upgrade project;
  • Opened several new stores and restaurants;
  • Negotiated a new in-terminal advertising partner; and
  • Added a new member to the airport’s Canine Unit.

2015 marked a return to the Airport Service Quality podium with a 2nd place finish among North American airports (all sizes), which reflects customer feedback on 34 service touchpoints during the passenger experience.

“Our growth is steady, but it is encouraging, especially with Ottawa 2017 and Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations just around the corner, which are sure to draw more tourists to our City,” said Mark Laroche, President and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority. “We made great strides in 2015 that set the stage for success in the years ahead; ensuring stable non-aeronautical revenues in several areas, demonstrating leadership in safety and security, with prudent financial planning, and working with the City of Ottawa in advancing Light Rail Transit to the airport terminal as part of LRT2. I would like to express my thanks to the Authority team for their continued dedication to the airport and our clients.”

Susan St. Amand, Chair of the Board of Directors, offered her praise for the result. “As Canada’s Capital airport, our facility acts as a gateway for visitors from the rest of the country and the world. I’m proud to be a part of the team that brings these communities together with a warm welcome at our airport. Congratulations and continued success to everyone who contributed to customer service excellence”.
