The Ottawa International Airport Authority is accepting applications for one Plumber position.

As a member of the Operations and Infrastructure Technical Services Team, the plumber is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs to all mechanical systems and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Plan, install, repair, replaces and maintain copper, steel, cast iron, plastic, and other piping systems in order to maintain systems for hot and cold water supplies, water and steamed based heating, sewage and storm water drainage, and fire protection in operational condition and to control the movement or containment of fluids and gases;
  • Plan and install plumbing and fixtures in renovation or construction projects;
  • Participate in renovation or construction projects;
  • Inspect service rooms and tunnels located throughout the facility and grounds in order to detect any abnormalities or malfunctions;
  • Participate in maintenance/skills training programs; and
  • Record work done on maintenance work orders within a Fixx based software system.

The successful candidate must :

  • Have good coordination and have manual dexterity;
  • Be comfortable using a wide range of power hand tools, power machines, torches, and welding equipment;
  • Apply safe work practices at all times;
  • Show attention to detail;
  • Be flexible with respect to changing assignments;
  • Have effective interpersonal skills; and
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence (Class G or equivalent).

The successful candidate must be able to :

  • Inspect projects for adherence to quality of work, codes and engineering drawings; 
  • Read, interpret and work from sketches, blueprints and specifications; 
  • Understand and carry of out general oral and written instructions; 
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces;
  • Work independently, yet collaboratively, with the HVAC and Plumbing Maintenance team; and
  • Assess priorities.

These abilities, combined with a professional and positive attitude, will ensure success in building positive working relationships in a team environment.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A Secondary School Diploma or ministry-approved equivalent;
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience as an Ontario Certificate of Qualification licensed Plumber;
  • Extensive experience in industrial, commercial and institutional plumbing;
  • Extensive knowledge in fire system protection at the industrial level; 
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, tools and materials of the plumbing trade and provincial and national building, plumbing and fire codes;
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; 
  • General knowledge of cooling systems, pump repair and basic electricity is required; and
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.

Assets :

  • Training in refrigeration and air conditioning and heating and energy management; and
  • Bilingualism (English and French).

About the position :

Salary

$80,767.00 to $91,287.00 per year in accordance with the current Collective Agreement (July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 rates) and based on a work week of 40 hours. 

Schedule

  • 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  • Two-week on-call rotation covering hours outside of their daily onsite hours on non-regular days and hours, including weekends and statutory holidays. 

Job requirements

  • Provide a driver’s abstract (issued within the last month)
  • Successfully obtain:
    • A security clearance check for an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC);
    • An Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP); and
    • A Restricted Radio Operator’s certificate.
